Fareboxes accept dollar bills and coins. Please have exact fare. SMART coach operators do not give change. Transfers can be purchased on the bus for connections between SMART buses and SMART & D-DOT buses. The farebox magnetic strip reader will process your bus pass.

*SMART Reduced Fare ID Requirements
To be eligible for a reduced fare on SMART, the following identification must be available at the time of purchase and boarding. SMART drivers or personnel may at any time request ID for verification purposes only.
Older adults over the age of 65
· SMART or DDOT Reduced Fare Identification Card
· Valid State of Michigan ID or Driver’s License
· Medicare Card - NOT Medicaid Cards
People with disabilities
· SMART or DDOT Reduced Fare Identification Card
· Medicare Card - NOT Medicaid Cards
Youth 6 – 18 years of age
· SMART or DDOT Reduced Fare Identification Card
· School ID card with picture and date of birth
· Valid State of Michigan ID or Driver’s License
To receive a SMART Reduced Fare ID card, just fill out an application. Reduced Fare Applications are available on www.smartbus.org or by calling Customer Information at 866.962.5515 and requesting an application to be mailed.
SMART PASSES
Buy one of our SMART 31 Day Passes, and it’s good for 31 days from the first time you use it. The expiration date is printed on the back of the pass when it is activated on the bus. And save big with our SMART Value Passes. Buy an $11 pass for just $10. Save a buck! Or, double your savings with our $22 pass for just $20. Each time you insert your Value Pass into the farebox, your fare will be deducted and the balance remaining is printed on the back of your card. Passengers riding both SMART and DDOT buses can purchase a Regional Monthly Pass that is valid for the current month displayed on the pass. Regional Pass passengers who ride SMART must pay an additional 50 cents each ride. Regional Pass passengers who ride SMART over 44 times a month will benefit by purchasing the Regional Pass/Regional PLUS Pass Combination. The Regional PLUS Pass can only be purchased in conjunction with a Regional Pass.
