Employment FAQ

Can someone with a conviction record work at SMART?

A conviction record does not exclude someone from working at SMART. The decision to hire is made on a case-by-case basis. However, all applicants must disclose the existence of convictions. If you fail to do so, you will be disqualified.

What is the rate of pay for drivers?

To view the rate of pay, visit the SMART Career Center and view open jobs for both Fixed Route and Connector drivers.  These are all full-time positions (40 hours per week) and are paid on a weekly basis.

What is the difference between Fixed Route and Connector?

Fixed Route is the large bus that runs down major streets and picks up passengers at designated bus stops. Fixed Route hours of operation are 7 days a week, approximately 23 hours per day. Connector is the smaller bus that is curb-to-curb service with the primary focus on transporting older adults and persons with disabilities.
