Wayne County Benefits from SMART Services
Our Public Education Campaign regarding the November 8th SMART Public Transportation Millage proposal is currently underway. As you know, this local funding enables SMART to continue to provide and expand transit services in Wayne County.
The Wayne County Public Transit Authority approved placing the SMART four-year millage proposal on the November 8, 2022, ballot to expand SMART transportation services. The ballot measure will also contribute to the operation of local communities’ transit services that partner with SMART to share the responsibility of community transit within each city.
The following communities benefit from SMART services!
Allen Park, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Ecorse, Garden City, Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Park, Grosse Pointe Township, Grosse Pointe Shores, Grosse Pointe Woods, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Highland Park, Inkster, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, Redford Township, River Rouge, Riverview, Romulus, Southgate, Taylor, Trenton, Wayne, Westland and Wyandotte
SMART currently operates 13 Fixed Route, Connector and Paratransit services within Wayne County. SMART Flex on-demand transportation offers trips around Dearborn, portions of Allen Park, Southgate including the Southland Center.
The four-year, 0.994 mil proposal will expand and maintain existing public transit services, including transportation provided by SMART to offer—
• Better coverage of current routes
• New FAST Routes
• Increased access to Flex on-demand service
• Improved average wait times between 15-30 minutes on Fixed Route and Flex

Every $100,000 in home value corresponds to a 50% taxable value, or $50,000. |
- In this case, the SMART 0.994 mil property tax costs a homeowner $49.70 per year or $4.14 a month for four years.

- Also, for every $1.00 of local funding SMART leverages an additional $1.34 in federal and state dollars.

SMART supports Economic Development in Wayne County
SMART connects employers with employees transporting their labor force to major industries including automotive, energy, education and medical organizations. SMART contributes mobility services to over 18,000 businesses employing over 200,000 people in Wayne County.

SMART uses technology to efficiently and effectively operate services throughout Wayne County including: |
- On-Board digital signage to provide route, weather and rider alert information; offering a better rider experience

- Bus stop digital display screens that show real-time arrival data

- Introduction of four (4) electric vehicles and will continue to incorporate efficient environmentally-friendly vehicles into its future fleet
